Pallet is a type of advanced packaging, it is a flat structure which is used as a base for unitization of various transports, stored through the supply chain. The very basic purpose of pallets is to help stack, store, protect and transport goods in the supply chain during transportation as they are handled through forklifts, jacks or conveyors stored in racks, or in bulk.
Pallets are also defined by the style such as single or double face, reversible, non reversible. Different types of bottom deck configurations are also considered in pallet style. A single faced pallet is also commonly called a skid.

Stringer Pallets are also of two types , one with solid stringers which allow only two way entry with forklifts attached to each end of the pallet. The second type is notched stringer pallets which somewhat allow a four way entry as forklifts can be attached to the notches as well the ends of the pallet.
Pallets are also for rent or hire and are known as Pallet pooling. This system of pallet exchange became heavily popular since inception in the years after world war 2. While renting, pallet users can have the high quality uses of the pallet while saving the cost to buy and only paying for the use. This can help to reduce the harmful effects of expendable pallets on the environment followed by completely displacing the need to use them. Reusable pallets can provide low cost per-trip, eliminating waste and operational efficiencies throughout supply chains.
